Home The GM's Job Managing the Transition About this Site Search
This Web site provides an informative look at how a large sample of newly minted general managers acclimated to their new positions across a wide range of companies, industries, and settings. It was developed by Professor David Garvin as a learning tool for general management courses and for his book General Management: Processes and Action.

The Web site has three objectives: to provide an overview of the general manager's job, to describe some of the critical issues in managing the transition from functional positions to general management, and to provide a few "rules of the road" for helping new general managers work more effectively.
